Come to the Dark Side. We have cookies. The advantage of insinuations over hard arguments is that they bypass critical thought. No one can respond precisely to a charge that is utterly vague or to accusers who will envelope any reply in a poisonous fog of further insinuations. ~ David Warren, The Guardian There was a time when there was enough freedom that it hardly mattered which brand of crooks ran government. That has not been true for a long time and that captures an important point. The more powerful the government becomes, the more people are willing to do in order to seize the prize, and the more afraid they become when someone else has control. ~ Glenn Harlan Reynolds “The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it. Power is what all messiahs really seek: not the chance to serve.” ― H.L. Mencken

Got his book today.  Hard to tell if it's a deep read or I'm just stupid.

Yes, T-dog, we know which one you'll say it is...

Which book--old or new?

That sorta read like I was intending to be an asshole. I wasn't. It was the potential for association with exactly the "12 step" thing that I was reacting to. Nothing against an ordered program toward sobriety, but I don't think that's the sort of thing the author is trying to convey.

I'm sure we're not the first ones to note the similarity.

Not sure I'm smart enough to tackle Maps of Meaning... plus, it was near $50 last I looked.

The other one is worse. It's easy to read but also easy to wander away from into thoughts of your own that prevent you from staying focused. Skim first, then go back and read attentively.

I watched that the other day.  If what he says is accurate, and it probably is, what happen to Shepherd was far worse than was originally reported.
