I watched the Avengers, infinity war... twice.  It was a visually spectacular and very engaging movie.  It has come to my attention, however, that some people... seem to think Thanos was right, that although he was 'the bad guy', he is worthy of sympathy and understanding.

That's just... horrifying.  Why?  Because he cried and felt bad about murdering his own daughter?  Because he patted stark on the head?  What the actual fuck?

Firstly, Thanos's entire plan was mid day sun on Mercury stupid.  Slaughter half the life in all the universe because he thinks resourses are limited and if left unchecked, life will consume all?

That's some paul ehrlich level fucked up stupid, that is.  It was stupid when maltheus suggested it and it was extra stupid when ehrlich suggested it and its visually spectacularly stupid now.

Secondly, I really didn't like the torturing.  Sure, torture is fascinating and humanity (and aliens) can be sick fucks and nothing spells out 'badguy' like he or she torturing people.  A sadistic bastard makes a clear cut badguy.

I suppose my issue is the off-handedness of how the various tortures are presented and the lack of consequences to the victims... except for Vision, who had the front of his brain torn out.  Twice.

Perhaps it is just hollywood.  It's certainly not the first movie whose charecters experience barbarity yet suffer superficial, if any, consequences.  The most notible film I remember that didn't do that was Braveheart but even that... sorry.  After being tortured and having your guts pulled out... you're not going to have anything left to yell, 'Freedom!', with.  Probably won't have any ability to do anything but scream... if you have even that left.

Anyway.  Thanos was a stupid shit and utterly wrong.  Slaughter half of all life in all the universe under that idiotic theory and you'll just have to do it again in a couple decades because... duh.  Living creatures procreate.

In Game of Thrones, Jaime Lannister is also beyond redemption, not that he ever expects it. However, nobility has its way, and for certain acts, forgiveness is tempting.....takes a review of his whole character to remain steadfast. Haven’t seen Thanos....

on this planet thousands, millions are dying because they can't get enough to eat. it is the way of life to breed until the numbers are cut by famine. thanos gave people a quick death rather than a slow death by hunger.

No, Knightly, neither thousands nor millions are dying of hunger here except within the confines of a few authoritarian nations.  In other words, their own governments are at fault.

in india they are dying. the hindu leadership are social dawanist. that is they don't value human life. you may heard that recently the indian government changed legal tender. the old currancy became worthless. many indians don't leave near banks. so they couldn't exchange the old currancy for the new. the hindu government doesn't want food that is rotting in storeage to be given to the peasants.

India serves as an example of government imposing starvation and misery.

Okay, you're going to say I'm doing my usual game, blaming everything on government.  You're right.  But if it is governments fault then it doesn't matter if I tend to do that too much because in this case, it's true.

Here is the reasoning.  In every westernized nation... meaning, in every nation that has a free-ish market and robust movement up and down the socio-economic strata, in every such nation there are negative birth rates.  Last year, the US had a 1.7 rate of children per woman.  2.1 is necessary to just stay at where your at.

In other words, economic prosperity results in population stability and then decline.  This is true across very different cultures.

So... India.  Allegedly a democracy, India is plagued by bureaucratic micromanagment and corruption.  It is so pervasive that it has depressed economic prosperity across the nation to such an extent that people still rely upon their own children for labor and economic support later in life.

In his book, "Free to Choose", Milton Friedman examines and compares India and Japan.  PJ O'Rourke also explores India in, "All the troubles in the world'.  Both arrive at the same conclusion from different approaches and different time periods.  India is overcrowded because it's own government has enforced poverty via bureaucracy and corruption.
